10 Oct Is it cheaper to rent in Manchester?
Home to an incredible range of properties – whether you dream of living in a modern new-build apartment with views across the city or a historical terrace close to local amenities – Manchester is a popular place for renters of all ages. It’s not hard to see why either.
Once here, there’s a huge array of things to do and plenty of employment opportunities too. But how exactly do rental prices in Manchester compare to other cities around the UK? Here, we explore everything there is to know and answer ‘is it cheaper to rent in Manchester?’
Renting in Manchester
The current UK rental market is in great demand – thanks to a huge number of people looking to rent, a shortage of properties and, unfortunately, rising costs in some areas. While rent just outside of London has now hit an all-time high, according to Rightmove, in Manchester it’s much cheaper.
Average costs for a one-bedroom apartment are now around £1105 per month in Manchester with five-bedroom houses coming in at £2248 per month. Of course, there are cheaper properties available though. When we compare Manchester and London rental prices, the latter costs on average 76% more for a one-bedroom apartment. In fact, annual growth in rental prices in the capital is faster than any other region and is reported to be at 15.8%.
While average rental costs in Birmingham and Liverpool may be slightly cheaper than Manchester, it can’t be denied that Manchester offers that little bit more. And, as we’ve already mentioned, it is possible to find very affordable properties in Manchester.
