Keeping the Kampus Vibe

This venture is unlike any other to hit Manchester’s city centre – Kampus is hip, urban and independent. According to their website, ‘Kampus is the new kid on the block. It’s got independent spirit and Manchester soul.’ Situated next to the Rochdale Canal and the Gay Village, the Kampus development is on a 2.3 acre site on Little David Street. It comprises Grade II listed buildings Minshull Mill and Minto and Turner, plus buildings previously occupied by Manchester Metropolitan University. The rest of the area is made up of a mix of modernist and industrial mill buildings.

This area has been closed off and unused for decades and this Kampus development, a joint venture between Capital & Centric and Henry Boot Developments will see Little David Street transformed. The plans include 500 apartments, hotels and leisure space, as well as artisan bars and independent restaurants.

Adam Brady of Henry Boot said in an interview with the MEN,  “We’re not looking to create another Northern Quarter, Spinningfields, Shoreditch or anywhere else here, Kampus will be a distinctive sub-district with its own individual vibe”.

The aim is to encourage independent hotels, restaurants, bars and businesses to set up in the area, creating an entirely new space for the Manchester city centre.

You can find out more about the Kampus development on their website.
